For ‘Resonate’ I wanted to create work that explored drawing, mark making and placement. I considered the values of tone and line and how each can interact to create harmony and tension within each piece. Areas of flat, quiet, empty space contrasted against intricate, detailed drawing were planned and deliberate choices to reflect the theme.
I drew inspiration from architecture, maps and the presentation of statistical graphics to create studies where the imagery would be instantly recognisable, yet lacking any non-visual data. To run along side these I produced smaller scale drawings and watercolours, which explored the visual aesthetics of statistical diagrams, like pie charts or polar area graphs, as well as loosely depicted imaginary lands and city districts.
